Acer Iconia W3 – world’s first 8.1-inch Windows tablet debuts
Finally, Acer’s promises for a smaller tablet running Windows have been fulfilled. The Acer Iconia W3 comes with pre-loaded MS Office 2013 and offers Windows experience on a small screen-size device, ideal for students, professors, specialists and people who want to have an easy access to all Microsoft programs like MS Office, Excel, Power Point and others. Having a sleek and light design, the Iconia W3 is 0.45-inch thick and it weighs just 540 g, making it suitable for one-hand use and entertaining, reading or watching videos.
Acer Iconia W3 has an 8.1-inch LED backlit screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and a dual-core Intel Atom processor clocked at 1.8 GHz. Equipped with two cameras – 2 megapixel main and a secondary one, the tablet has an internal memory of 32 or 64 GB, expandable via microSD slot up to 32 GB. There is a build-in micro HDMI port, making projecting display content on larger screens possible. Unfortunately, the Iconia W3 lacks Thunderbolt and USB 3.0. Additionally, the new device will arrive with an optional full-size keyboard, similar to the 13-inch notebook keyboard accessory. The external keyboard is priced around $90. Finally, Iconia W3 has a microUSB and Bluetooth 4 connectivity.
Sales start from June 4 – the tablet can be pre-ordered at some retailers like Amazon, Wallmart, OfficeMax and others. Acer has confirmed the price of $379 for the new Iconia W3, and it seems this would be the price for the 32 GB version. In Europe, the same version is priced 329 EUR, while the expanded 64 GB model can be pre-ordered for 379 euros.
