Xiaomi may launch an ultra-cheap smartphone in Japan
Xiaomi with a new strategy to offer ultra-cheap smartphones
Xiaomi, the company that sells many of its new devices within minutes, is now exploring different alternatives to expand globally. The company has already established itself on the home market and most of the Xiaomi’s smartphones are known with good characteristics and low prices. The Chinese recently horrified a lot many of the big players on the market including Samsung and Apple. Xiaomi announced that a new business model will be implemented. According to the information, the Chinese company will offer a smartphone priced at around $50!
Prices like $50 for a phone are not something rare now, especially in India where different low-cost manufacturers such as Micromax are fighting to increase their shares. But Xiaomi is different. Unlike Micromax, most of the phones offered by the Chinese are really good, despite their low prices. That means a future low-end model for $50 could probably have the same specs and innards as a new Android device priced at $100 or even $150. That’s why many companies are really scared of the new approach and a further pushing the average price of a phone down may cause a lot of troubles to many.
Xiaomi is likely to introduce a new low-cost device (probably not for $50) in Japan. The market, dominated by Apple’s iPhones will be the first test for Xiaomi if the new approach has potential. If the users are intrigued by good and affordable smartphones, that will be a sign for a more aggressive expansion strategy. Xiaomi is expected to launch a couple of phones on the emerging markets, as well as in Europe. At present, none of the information is confirmed, so we cannot specify which devices will be released.
