Xiaomi entering new markets with 2S and 2A
After selling over 7 million phones in China last year and with the recently unveiled models, Xiaomi is determined to capture new markets. As you can see on the picture, 2S on the left stays pretty close to the previous Xiaomi Phone 2, with few differences. It comes with the new Snapdragon 600 quad-core 1.7GHz chip and 13-mexapixel camera on 32GB model. On 16GB model the camera is downgraded to 8-megapixels. Models can be purchased in China from 10th of April, respectively for $320 and $370. Xiaomi 2S is set to launch in Hong Kong on April 23rd via company’s own website – xiaomi.hk. Customers in Taiwan will be able to buy 2S from a local carrier or at xiaomi.tw, starting next month.
The phone on the right is Xiaomi Phone 2A and it’s playing the role of a budget phone. The CPU is downgraded to dual-core MSM8260A, but its clocked at 1.7GHz. The storage space is 16GB. The model has 8-megapixel camera, 5GHz WiFi, 2,000mAh battery and new audio engine by Swedish a company called Dirac. 2A phone will be on the market in China in a few weeks for only $240. Shortly afterwards, 2A will be launched in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Both 2S and 2A comes with the new MIUI v5 system, offering new software features like pre-identification of incoming calls (for China only), so you will be able to know in advance who is calling you. The voice recorder is not interrupted by the incoming calls and can support up to 168 hours of continuous recording. People can also monitor the apps and the transferred data from each application. MiChat is updated, and now supports video messages. You can also explore MiStore and download more than 20 000 apps. All of the above-mentioned indicate that Xiaomi is seriously aimed at capturing market share in Hong Kong and Taiwan and soon afterwards maybe even in Europe.
