XE10 update for Google Glass is already available for developers
In the end of September we shared the rumors about the upcoming update for the Google Glass named XE10. Back then, rumors suggested that it will bring the possibility for developers to write apps for the wearable device. Right on time, Google has just launched the update with some interesting software improvements and new capabilities.
Google Glass is the unique wearable computing device created by the mobile giant. It is still available only for developers. Their main task is to test it and to improve it before it gets officially released in the next year. Each update adds more features and options for the Glass and enriches its potential of becoming one of the most useful and fulfilling devices in people’s lives.
What does XE10 bring for the Glass? One of the significant improvements with the update is the possibility to use transit directions. In order to enable the transit directions, the owner of the Google Glass needs to pair-up the device with an Android-running smartphone. The phone needs to have the MyGlass app installed and working before the connection. The advantages of the transit option is that it will deliver detailed information to users about trains, buses, underground while he/she is searching for certain directions. The Glass will be able to provide step-by-step instructions for getting around and using the most convenient means of transportation.
The more minor improvement in the update is the new possibility to click on links in emails, tweets, texts, messages etc. The new feature works via tapping on the card with the link and that will lead the user to the certain site. The option “View site” will appear. Another improvement is the possibility to see the photos of the person you are communicating it (via IM, text messages, calls) as a background of the device.
The XE10 update is not as significant as some of the previous versions of the software. However the inclusion of the transit directions is definitely of great help for getting around through the big cities. Those of you explorers and developers, who get the chance to try the update XE10, don’t miss out to share with us your impressions.
