SK Telecom’s LTE-A network reached 150000 subscribers for 2 weeks
SK Telecom was the first operator in the world with the new LTE-Advanced network. The South Korean carrier and wireless provider started its new service just 2 weeks ago but until now more than 150 000 subscribers have signed up for its high- speed LTE-Advanced network.
The service is really attractive – it offers users double speed of the current LTE network and it is ten times faster than the old 3G standard. Offering such a speed, the new LTE-Advanced network of the SK Telecom quickly gains attention. According to Yonhap News, SK Telecom attracts 10 000 new users a day – that means the consumers in South Korea are eager to use the service.
SK Telecom introduced its new LTE- A network last month, which is now available in Seoul and 43 other major cities in the country. SK Telecom offers speeds up to 150 mbps. The company promises that users can download a movie (800 MB) in less than a minute. Now, most of the phone manufacturers are developing LTE-A enabled devices. The launch of the LTE-A network in South Korea coincides with the announcement of the LTE-A version of the Samsung’s flagship device. The Samsung Galaxy S4 with an LTE-A support is already available in the country and enjoys popularity.
With the start of the new LTE-A networks around the globe we will see more companies to launch LTE-A version of their models. LG and Pantech are expected to release such devices in the coming months. Another wireless provider is preparing itself for the new standard. LG Uplus will launch its network later this month. The signal will be available in Seoul and some other major cities in South Korea.
