Samsung Galaxy S4 First Review
Introduction
Yes, folks! Finally, Galaxy S4 is here and we are in New York to provide you with the first review of Samsung Galaxy S4. The device is really amazing and the audience is so excited! The device is still being presented today, on March 14 in the Radio City Music Hall in New York by Will Chase, the director of Samsung Telecommunications J.K. Shin and the Director of Product Marketing in USA Ryan Bidan. Let’s see what Samsung Galaxy S4 offers – we will update the review if there are new details released.
Design
The leaks we got from China turned out true – Samsung Galaxy S4 resembles Samsung Galaxy S3 with its rounded sides and corners. The device’s chassis is made of polycarbonate in Black Mist or White Frost colour and it is ultra-thin – only 7.9mm and with minimized bezel. Everything Samsung Galaxy S4 employs weighs only 130 grams! The dimensions are 136.6×69.8×7.9 mm. The device has a front and a rear camera, mini-USB (supporting MHL 2.0), a power button, of course, and volume up and down.
Display
The Display is spectacular! A 5’’ Super AMOLED display with Full HD resolution and 441 ppi will adjust brightness, contrast and saturation depending on where you are, what video you are watching, what game you are playing – the display is designed in such a way to provide the perfect image for whatever you are doing with the help of Samsung Adapt Display. It is powered by Gorilla Glass 3 – yes, the next innovation in a Samsung device.
Hardware
What we got about the hardware from the unveiling is that Samsung Galaxy S4 has 2GB of LPDDR3 operative memory, two versions – 32GB or 64GB storage capacity and different connectivity options. The processor will depend on the market – 1.9GHz quad-core or 1.6GHz octa-core. The unveiling specifically emphasised that the device will be supporting all 4G LTE networks around the world and will be able to download data at 100 mb/s and to upload at 50 mb/s with its Category 3 4G LTE technology. The Wi-Fi is a/b/g/n/ac and we will get Bluetooth 4.0. Except all the traditional sensors, Samsung Galaxy S4 will have temperature and humidity sensor as well as infrared gestures sensor. Speaking of infrared, the device will have an infrared sensor (Samsung WatchON) acting as a remote control for different TV sets and other devices – just like LG Optimus G Pro. All this and much more will be supported by the 2600mAh battery. The Group Play function will allow you to share multimedia and other files without Internet connection with up to 8 other Samsung Galaxy S4 devices.
Camera
Much emphasis is put on the cameras of Samsung Galaxy S4. The rear camera is 13MP with Zero Shutter Lag and the front one is 2MP. What’s the best thing about it – the dual-camera videos. In other words, you can simultaneously capture video with the front and rear camera. For example, you are making a video of your child first steps – your face will appear on the video, too, and you can put it wherever you want. There, of course, are different options for it. Another cool feature is the pictures with sound – yes, talking pictures. The Drama Shot, on the other hand, helps you see everything that takes place in one continuous time-lapse. The cameras capture Full HD video at 30 frames per second. The rear camera is able to capture a virtual 360 degrees panorama. There is the function eraser – just delete something you don’t like from the pic! We don’t have to tell you there are features like HDR, Best Photo and Best Face. And something more – you can use the dual shot mentioned above in a video chat!
Software
Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with a totally optimized and different UI above the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and there are some unique features that we shall mention. The floating touch develops the technology of the S Pen hovering of Samsung Galaxy Note II to the limits – now you just move a finger above the display and that’s it – you launch applications, open files etc. Similarly, when you hover your hand, you can scroll up, down, left or right and turn pages of books – this is called Air View. The Smart Pause will pause your video when you are not watching at it – isn’t it useful and making your life easier? The Smart Scroll will scroll up or down your content depending on where on the screen you are looking at. The S Voice Drive allows you to drive safely and effortlessly by operating your phone through voice commands. Samsung Optical Reader will read for you QR codes, business cards and will recognize other text, this way helping you deal with different situations faster. One of the most useful features is the S Translator. You can write a sentence in one language and your device will pronounce it in another chosen one. Then the person you are talking with may pronounce something in a language that you don’t know and Samsung Galaxy S4 will write it down in your language. Some of the supported languages are English, French, German, Italian, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese and Chinese. To finish with, Samsung Galaxy S4 is the first device to employ the Samsung KNOX security, so you don’t have to worry about your privacy anymore.
Conclusion
Needless to say, Samsung Galaxy S4 is the best device that the world has seen so far. It employs everything seen in other devices before regardless brands or models and what’s more – everything is improved. Besides what we know as technology so far, we get unique new features and functions and the waiting was certainly worth! However, a lot of the details were known beforehand as a result of the different leaks and rumours. No matter what, Samsung Galaxy S4 is surely the king of the smartphones and will be the dream of every mobile fan around the world. We are eagerly waiting for its release!
