Rumor: New Sony flagship series code-named Sirius and Castor to debut at MWC
The leak tips a Verizon support
Sony announced its Xperia Z1 smaller versions yesterday at CES, but it appears that the Japanese company is not done with its new tech. According to the latest rumors, Sony is getting ready to unveil an entirely new flagship series of next-generation smartphones and tablets that are said to debut sometime at MWC next month in order to be released later this year. At first sight, the devices seem like future Xperias; however the leaks suggest the codename Sony Sirius for the smartphones and Sony Castor for the tablet.
Of course, the usual suspects are again the guys from @evleaks who suggest that ‘Sony Sirius 2014 flagship is tipped for MWC debut and a home on Verizon in the US.’
The tweet spoils the Sony Sirius to sport a 5.2-inch display and to operate with ‘MSM8974AB SoC’, in plain English a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor coated at 2.3GHz. The last part mentions a Verizon support suggesting that maybe Big Red will join T-Mobile in selling subsidized smartphones and tablets. The codenamed Sony Sirius appears in a rumor for the second time after a while. The first time such a device appeared online, it was suggested to arrive at CES; however this obviously didn’t happen. If we compare the two rumors, we can still see some differences, as the first Sony Sirius smartphone leaked with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor that is kinda inaccurate to be adopted by a device set to launch before Q4 of 2014. Nonetheless, the first leaked Sony Sirius was said to sport the same 5.2-inch screen with 2560×1440 pixels of resolution.
As for the Sony Castor, the tweet doesn’t give u much information on that one, but it’s quite possible to arrive as a next-generation Sony tablet. According to @evleaks, the device will be powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor at 2.3GHz and will also rock in Wi-Fi and 4G LTE variants. It’s unclear whether the new series of devices will be unveiled at WMC or not, however keep in mind that so far nothing has been officially confirmed.
