Packingham leaves Samsung
Kevin Packingham now officially walks away from Samsung. The chief product officer in the U.S. has now left the Korean-based manufacturer. Even though he was responsible for a lot of the activities in the decision is final.
He was responsible for the initial introduction of some of the most important Samsung products in the U.S. that were the first serious competitors to Apple’s iPhone in terms of units been sold. Some of Samsung’s top-selling models like the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Note and the now current flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 were arranged and managed by Packingham.
He also helped for the release of the devices on all four major U.S. carriers and he worked as mentioned above on the phablet that established and sustains the category Samsung Galaxy Note.
The executive, based out of Dallas, spent whole two years in Samsung Mobile and has explained a while ago how Samsung really wants to take charge of its own advertising and plans on marketing and hopes to promote its own products by itself rather than relying on carriers to do that instead.
This idea and basically set a strategy that Samsung used. It created a lot of witty commercials, of course, picking at the main competitor Apple. The thing most discussed in the commercials was the queues that Apple fans formed before a release of an iPhone.
Of course the carriers really liked the idea of Samsung because they did not have to spend so much money on marketing the phones that Samsung produces and they could save a little.
The decision of Packingham to leave was announced today and it seems final. It was known internally since Tuesday. There has not been a replacement named by Samsung yet.
“Kevin Packingham has departed Samsung Mobile. We thank Kevin for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors.”-Ashley Wimberly, Samsung Mobile spokeswoman
