Official list of release dates for devices getting Android 4.4 KitKat
It’s official, the long-awaited operating system Android 4.4 KitKat has been unwrapped with many welcomed features and upgrades and has been designed around three major tent poles. According to Sundar Pichai, Android chief at Google, people generally launch new versions of operating systems and they need more memory, but that’s not the case with KitKat, since it’s made to run all the way back on entry level phones and this is the version of the OS that will run across all Android smartphones in 2014.
Still the question remains- when will our phones be alble to get the Android 4.4 KitKat update? It appears that the new Android 4.4 KitKat is still coming first and only to the top devices. If you’re wondering when will your Nexus 7 or Nexus 4 or Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play get the Android 4.4, I’m afraid you need to be patient. Here is a list of when Android 4.4 is featured in different manufacturers’ plans for upgrade:
HTC
- HTC One (including carrier models) – Within 90 days
- HTC One mini – Within 90 days
- HTC One max – Within 90 days
- HTC One Google Play Edition – Within 15 days
Motorola (no timeframes yet)
- Motorola DROID Ultra
- Motorola DROID Maxx
- Motorola DROID Mini
- Motorola Moto X
Nexus Devices
- Google Nexus 4 – “Coming weeks”
- Google Nexus 7 – “Coming weeks”
- Google Nexus 10 – “Coming weeks”
Samsung
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition – “Coming weeks”
The information is officially confirmed by the manufacturers so if your device is not listed, it is either because the companies haven’t announced their upgrade plans yet, or it is simply not getting the KitKat update.
Motorola will update few devices as only the listed are 100% guaranteed, which means not many people will lay their hands on the update. Either way, at least Android 4.4 KitKat updates will come very soon to those devices. Apparently, the Galaxy Nexus is not getting this update either. Stay tuned for more information.
