Nokia HERE app is no longer available in App Store
Nokia HERE app is pulled out from App Store
If you are an iPhone user and you like to use the most reliable mapping apps for navigation and getting around you might be disappointed by the following news. The Nokia HERE app is no longer available in Apple App Store. And no, it is not a temporary bug that is restraining the app to be up-for-download in the store. It seems that Nokia has taken this decision for long term. The reasons for this are not a secret, although it came as a surprise to iOS users that were used to using the app for a year now. To be fair Nokia HERE has never worked brilliantly in iOS. Some of the issues that users had when using the Nokia HERE include often failing to zoom in or zoom out. iOS users can still use the app when go to here.com. When Nokia was asked to comment the pulling out of Nokia HERE from the App Store, it released the statement:
“We have made the decision to remove our HERE Maps app from the Apple App Store because recent changes to iOS 7 harm the user experience. iPhone users can continue to use the mobile web version of HERE Maps under m.here.com, offering them core location needs, such as search, routing, orientation, transit information and more, all completely free of charge.”
After the partial acquisition of the hardware division of Nokia to Microsoft the HERE app wil remain one of the three main business departments of the Finnish company. Microsoft has already bought the license for the app for the next 10 years. This means that the Windows Phone platform will be working with Nokia HERE for the near future. It will no longer be a competition to the Apple Maps app and there are no clues that it HERE maps will be returning to the App Store anytime soon. With the growing popularity of the Windows Phone platform the HERE app is also becoming more and more widely used amongst users. Time will show how ahead it will go in its development and whether it will become a strong competitor to Google Maps and Apple Maps.
