LG entering the market of smart and communicative appliances with a new line
Tell your refrigerator that you’ll be going somewhere for a certain time and it will go power-saving mode
Yes, folks, CES 2014 is just around the corner and we’re expecting it with open arms as the event will finally give us the answers to so many questions and rumors that took hold the last two months. As the number of topics that will be reviewed next month grow, today we can add another one and that is LG entering the market of smart and communicative appliances with a new line very soon. The Korean manufacturer promises to show off at the event with its next generation appliances integrating with HomeChat service and the well-known LINE mobile messenger.
The Korean media officially confirmed that LG will showcase the chatty smart appliances in January 2014 and this sounds way too good to be true. I often make references to the Sci-Fi novels and TV-series from the 70s, but it’s way too accurate not to.
What does this mean to the end user? Basically, owners will be enabled to control various appliances via LINE remotely on their smartphone or tablet or even on their PC. All of this will be possible through usage of regular phrases in English in order to communicate with the machines. And as the Sci-Fi books and series would confirm, the machines will talk back.
Well, Scotty won’t really beam you up on-board (at least now), however you can simply ask the vacuum cleaner where it last cleaned in order to get the appliance’s cleaning history. You know, like you have your own Jarvis. Also you can type a message in and tell your refrigerator that you’ll be going somewhere for a certain time and it will go power-saving mode. The fridge, on the other hand, can also display images uploaded by users via LINE on its LCD panel.
How about asking your oven for some recommendations for a recipe while you’re cooking? No, problem, Mr Stark! This is indeed an incredible concept of smart appliances and it almost sound surreal and way too futuristic.
At least for now, the communication will be initiated mostly by the owner, however the Artificial Intelligence will let the equipment participating into the conversation and even with each other. Welcome to the future!
