IM5 is the first Kodak smartphone
Kodak IM5 has a 5-inch screen and 13MP camera
The popular photo brand has been resurrected thanks to a license agreement between the emerged from recent bankruptcy company and Bullitt – the manufacturer of ruggedized smartphones CAT. The result of this partnership is that we are looking at the first ever smartphone with the Kodak brand on the back. Named Kodak IM5, this is a mid-range smartphone with industrial design and focus on the camera. In fact, the 13MP shooter on the back is the most attractive feature we can find, and that’s understandable – if you buy a Kodak phone you should expect great quality of the photos.
Kodak IM5 uses a Media Tek processor running at 1.7 GHz and just 1 GB of RAM. Compromises can also be seen in the storage department with only 8GB available for operating system, apps, files and photos. On the other hand, Kodak IM5 has a decent 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080p (Full HD). Unfortunately, we do not have any information about the camera module except this 13MP resolution. The selfie camera works with 5-megapixels.
In terms of software, you will have Android 4.4 KitKat with a modified custom skin on top. The custom UI is rather simple and presents much larger icons and menus. There is an additional Kodak Google Store along with the official one.
The IM5 smartphone by Kodak is for regular consumers and offers great value, according to Bullitt’s CEO. The company is also revealing the price of the phone – in Europe it will cost 229 EUR, while in the US you will pay $249. The IM5 is launching in this quarter of the year.
