Our Google+ profile photos soon to be linked to our phone numbers
After lots of good work on the phone dialer on Google Nexus 5 and the new features in Android 4.4 KitKat, Google is about to keep on improving its database and soon in early in 2014, as no specific date has been confirmed yet, the company is planning to start pairing up people’s profile photos at Google + with their phone numbers and this will happen automatically. The new update will allow other Android phone users that you call to see your Google + photo automatically on their incoming call screen when you call them. For now this will apply only to into the Nexus 5, not every single Android phone.
Is this good or bad news, the feedback comes with mixed opinion. Some people are already figuratively freaking out about their privacy, feeling safe to instantly change their Google + photos with ones that don’t consist their actual image and others are even going paranoid about putting anything in their Google + profile as they claim that Google continues to retroactively degrading their privacy. Either way, that might not be exactly true since logically, if you’re calling someone, it’s likely for you to have given them your phone number already, not to mention, hundreds of strangers see your photo in Google + every day.
Basically, Google isn’t doing anything against privacy that Facebook hasn’t. The only thing that isn’t exactly right in the picture is the automaticity of the feature. Personally, I’d prefer to have to choose if I want other people to see my photo, however Google apparently thought of that as well, so they give you the control room for your own contact image by letting you make changes into your verified numbers list that are associated with your account. So, if you feel your privacy being at stake here, simply go into your Google account settings and chose which phone numbers should be linked to your account. The upcoming update will allow you keep your information up to date so the numbers of your choosing would see it.
