Gmail officially gets ads…well not exactly
Ever since last week a rumor has been roaming around the cyberspace that suggested that Gmail is getting apps in the new updated version, well now it turns out that we can see the first ads on Gmail.
Earlier this week the first confirmation seemed to appear but it was not quite certain whether Google will actually take the step.
Now on Friday it was confirmed and on Saturday we see the very first ads appearing on Gmail. Well, the ads are not in the main folder where you would expect them. It seems that Google has decided to put the first ads on the mobile version of Gmail in the promotions folder.
The other version of Gmail has had ads since its beginning in 2004, however, Google managed to sustain the Android version ad-free for quite long time. The time is probably a record all by itself but now Google will have ads on its service.
Nevertheless, the first ads appeared in the promotions folder and there are not any in the folders that you would hate. They might appear but really there is not anything worrying about the ads since they are in style with the emails themselves and you can clearly see that it says that this is ad and you can just skip it.
We have to keep in mind that it’s the ads that make most of the apps free of any charge. The ad that you see on the picture is of Vistaprint for business card printer.
The other good thing about ads that should make you less upset about Google adding ads to its Gmail service on Android is that sometimes ads are actually quite useful and can help you find something that you have been searching for long time. And we all know that Google are really good at targeting ads at specific customers.
