Facebook Home reach 500 000 downloads
Facebook Home has reached over 500 000 downloads from the Google App Store since its launch on April 16. Despite the mixed reviews and expectations, the software has attracted a fair number of users. We all know that these tech reviews are usually written by people, who are not among the heaviest Facebook supporters, that’s why the download results for the first five days are not so bad. Many of the Facebook fans are not interested in reading these kinds of reviews and they would probably have downloaded the app in any case.
Well, 500 000 downloads is not too impressive compared with some other apps. Just remember the Instagram app for Android hitting one million downloads in the first day, and then 5 million downloads in the next six days. That was really impressive. And if you compare the total number of people using Facebook (more than a billion) with these 500 000 downloads the figure doesn’t seem so good. Of course, Facebook can explain that with the limited app availability. Facebook Home is allowed on selected devices – HTC First, Facebook Phone, HTC One X+, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note II.
We must note that Facebook Home is not a typical app. It is a new type of app, more close to a user interface putting Facebook at the center of the screen and showing posts, updates, pictures and statuses. With Facebook Home you can post updates or chat with a friend directly from your Lock Screen without being interrupted. That sounds perfect if you are a heavy Facebook user. But if you are not you can actually get annoyed by the fact that Facebook Home is taking control over your phone. Moreover, Facebook Home buries many other Android apps away so users may experience difficulties finding them.
