Elon Musk Reacts Strongly to Apple’s Use of OpenAI in iOS 18
One of the most significant announcements at Apple’s WWDC 2024 was the introduction of Apple Intelligence, Apple’s foray into artificial intelligence. The company revealed a partnership with OpenAI to integrate some of its technologies into Apple’s AI features. However, this collaboration has not been well-received by everyone, particularly Elon Musk.
Musk took to X to express his disapproval, labeling the partnership an “unacceptable security violation.” He further declared that Apple devices would be banned from use within his companies. Additionally, visitors bringing Apple devices would be required to leave them at the entrance, where they would be stored in a Faraday cage to block any signals.
If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation.

For context, Musk co-founded OpenAI with its current CEO, Sam Altman, but left the board in 2018. Since then, Musk and Altman have frequently clashed.
Despite Musk’s strong reaction, it is unlikely that Apple will reconsider its partnership with OpenAI based on his tweets. However, it is an intriguing development. During an interview at WWDC 2024, Apple executive Craig Federighi mentioned that the company is open to exploring other AI models, suggesting the possibility of allowing users to choose their preferred AI, such as Google Gemini.
