New Design of Windows Phone 8.1 Action Center Seen in Screenshots from Microsoft Email
The new design of the Notification Center of Windows Phone 8.1 can be seen in screenshots. These screenshots were first published on the Winphollowers site. Now the Notification Centre is called Action Center. As was pointed out, the screenshots came from a confidential Microsoft email. They say that the email also discussed other details of the new OS version. But just these screenshots showing the new design have leaked out.
The new design of the Action Center of Windows Phone 8.1 is also called ‘Blue’. In it users can enable and disable connections as needed. They can enable or disable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections, or modes such as driving or airplane. They can be configured by the user. Then there is the ‘Clear All’ option on the left. With it users can clear the list of notifications. The ‘All Settings’ option is on the right. This option enables users to configure quick access tasks. Doing quick actions is easy by single swiping. Another swipe helps to show notifications.
The screenshots of the new design of the Windows Phone 8.1 Action Center show that under the battery icon, top left, they can see the percentage of charge left. That is a feature that many users have wished for. Now it is available in the new design of the center.
In the slidedeck there is mention of the management of notifications. Users can silently add, or update. If needed, they can delay alerts. These notifications are called ’ghost notifications. In them users are not actively alerted. The alerts are shown in the Action Center. That is a convenient feature because some alerts are not of primary importance for users. Now developers can manage these independently in the apps they create for Windows Phone 8.1.
The new design enables users to see the Action Center as a small blue icon if they accidentally swipe down as they are playing a game, for example. The new Action Center will help users to manage it according to context. It is now a matter of months before the Windows Phone 8.1 is likely to be unveiled. The unveiling is expected at around April 2. That is the time for the Microsoft Build Developer Conference in San Francisco. A developer preview is expected to be announced then, too. The expectations are high, Microsoft has already got Bluetooth certification for the 8.1.
