BlackBerry has no plans to release BBM for Windows
The company, however, is willing to rethink their decision if “sufficient numbers” are requesting the service
Last year BlackBerry took a stab at the messaging service market with its BBM, which put them in competition with rival platforms Android and iOS. The service quickly gained millions of users all over the world, but it seems that a BBM for Windows Phone app is not in the cards for the company. It has been reported that this app for the platform it one of the most desired apps that the users are requesting, however the company responded that they are no current plans to release an app like that for the Windows Phone.
According to David Proulx, the Senior Director of the BBM Business Development, this decision is basically down to the size of the platform. He states that a release for a Windows Phone app isn’t exactly out of the question, saying that as other platforms emerge, whichever they may be, they will execute on those platforms as well.
Some people think that this is a way for BlackBerry to try to hang onto the Windows Phone platform as it begins to leave BlackBerry behind, but Proulx also added that as soon as “sufficient numbers” of the app are requesting the service, the company might rethink their decision.
With the BBM app you can chat with friends on Android, BlackBerry and iPhone. It’s always on and always connected, which means there are no apps to open. You are informed when messages have been delivered and read, you can share photos, files, documents, voice notes and more and there are many emoticons you can use to express yourself.
Not only that, but BBM also lets you protect and control your privacy. You can choose how to share your information by using PINs instead of phone numbers or email addresses and you can also choose your contacts with a 2-way opt-in, which mean you have control over who is able to message you.
The BBM app was last updated to version 1.0.3.87 on January 13th, 2014. Its size is 13M and it requires Android 4.0 and up. You can download the Android version of app for free HERE.
