ASUS PadFone mini is now official

Asus has unveiled its affordable PadFone mini in Taiwan

Asus has designed the PadFone mini as a less expensive and less powerful version of the original PadFone model. Unveiled in Taiwan, the mini version of the PadFone is likely to attract those consumers who are looking for a more affordable alternative of a hybrid device.

As far as the specs, some of them are better than the previously rumored. The display measures 4.3 inches across diagonals, with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. There’s a quad-core processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor ticking over at 1.4 GHz supported by 1 GB of RAM. ASUS PadFone mini comes with 16 GB of storage, a micro SD slot and 5 GB of free ASUS Web storage. The device has an 8 MP camera with LED flash on the back and a 2 MP shooter up front. The tablet dock has a 7 inch screen with a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution and a 2200 mAh battery. Combined together, both parts of the ASUS PadFone mini weigh 415 grams (105 grams for the smartphone and 310 grams – the tablet dock).

So, the budget version of the Asus PadFone offers a slightly smaller smartphone screen than the PadFone Infinity and a 7-inch tablet dock, in comparison with the 10.1 tablet dock of the Asus PadFone Infinity. The new PadFone mini is expected to retail for $400, available in chocolate black, cherry milk and white. As yet, availability details are not known, but we expect the new model to arrive first at some of the largest Taiwanese carriers. There’s no word on international launch, though we expect the ASUS PadFone mini to hit other key markets soon after the official launch in the motherland.
