T-Mobile boosts LTE speed by tapping the airwaves of MetroPCS
The 20-by-20 LTE service will be able to work with any LTE capable device
Three days ago we reported that Verizon has triple-wided their 4G capacity with AWS support in selected cities. Right in the heat of the LTE battle, T-Mobile has also taken advantage of the growing popularity of the network and quietly moved its armies with a faster service in North Dallas.
Apparently, the spectrum has been utilized through the MetroPCS acquisition. The game is set for the US mobile carriers to recruit more customers for their mobile services and access to more data. On one hand, we have the Verizon carrier that admitted the congestion of its current LTE to turn into a new 4G LTE network that aims at 80Mbps of download speed by utilizing 40MHz spectrum via the AWS. On the other hand, AT&T is also working on upgrading its network speeds via macro cells and distributed antenna systems. Right in the middle, T-Mobile is also giving a boost to its LTE network and increases the download speed via a totally different route. The process centres on the so called 20-by-20 service via MetroPCS’s spectrum and that service doubles the 20MHz spectrum that the carrier offered so far with their LTE network.
According to T-Mobile vice president Grant Castle, the company has been recently working on a new project that is about to start rolling out by next year. The project is their doubled LTE spectrum while T-Mobile’s current 10-by-10 LTE services should soon arrive to 40 out of the 50 top markets in the US before this year ends. The vice president of T-Mobile also shares that the company’s approach is quite special in terms of not requiring new kinds of hardware for the users in order to take advantage of the increased speed.
Grant Castle assures us that the 20-by-20 LTE service will be able to work with any LTE capable device in comparison to Verizon’s AWS-based 4G network that currently has a very limited compatibility.
