Micromax to release 4G devices this year and a Windows Phone in 2014

Micromax, the most popular local smartphone manufacturer in India is preparing a number of 4G capable devices and a Windows Phone. Moreover, Micromax is gearing up to start the next phase of its plan for a global expansion. As a result, new smartphones will be launched in Russia by the end of 2013. Later, the Indian company will release devices on other markets, tracing its route for an international expansion.

Rahul Sharma, one of the co-founders of Micromax has revealed in an interview that the new 4G enabled smartphones should be on the market by mid- December this year. Micromax wants to establish itself offering LTE capable handsets at lower prices. Once the LTE network became available in India, Micromax would have a competitive advantage over the current market leader Samsung.

Sharma has also revealed some of the company’s mid-term plans for expansion. By next year, Micromax will try to double its sales and production (to 50 million units). In 12-18 months, the company will try to optimize its supply chain. Currently, all parts for the manufacturing process are imported. Once Micromax establishes itself in India, the company will enter other markets. In some countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, the Indian vendor has already become the top 3 player. In December, the waters in Russia will be tested and the possible success would open the doors to Eastern Europe and other countries.

In the interview, Sharma comments Nokia. He says that it has been good for his company that Nokia chose Windows Phone. Otherwise, the Indians would have a very serious competitor on the Android dominated local market. Anyway, Micromax sees bright future for Windows and the company is preparing its first device running Windows Phone, says Sharma.
