Recent report claims Samsung is not working on fingerprint technology
Many expect that the technology for fingerprint scanning as a security feature in high-end devices will be the next hot thing in the mobile world. However this might not be the case for all manufacturers. The latest news on this topic comes from Samsung. Apparently the company will not compete on this field for now. The source of the information comes from the recently published report in the Korean Herald. According to the media, Samsung is not working on the concepts that include fingerprint sensors in the upcoming devices, at least for now. We expect to see a phone or a phablet featuring a similar technology not earlier than the end of 2014. There are several reasons behind this decision of Samsung. First, the technology is in its earliest stages of developing. It is still too imperfect. In terms of security it has not shown significant advantages yet. Another reason might be the fact that Samsung does not have a rich choice of tech companies working in this field to team up with.
One of the local companies in Korea, Crucialtec that can work with Samsung is still behind in its achievements compared to the the recently purchased by Apple, Authentic. iPhone 5S has integrated the technology developed by Authentic. Sources from the Korean company reveal that Samsung has never officially admitted that it is considering integrating the biometric technology for fingerprint scanner in the recently revealed phablet Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The company claims that it is still not developing this technology.
The published report evokes speculations that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will not have a fingerprint scanner integrated as a security feature. The upcoming flagship is expected to arrive in the beginning of the next year. We are open for surprises, and Samsung knows well how to make them. The Korean manufacturer was the first to release a high-end smartwatch but it is stepping back to wait until the biometric technology get more advanced. The interesting is yet to happen. Stay tuned…
