Samsung has promised to enrich the compatibility of Galaxy Gear with more devices soon
Samsung Galaxy Gear was presented by the Korean manufacturer just 2 days ago in Berlin. The new smartwatch comes with a nice set of features which bring a new user experience, but drain the battery life and raise the question whether the device will be practical at all in real life. Another important issue addressed by customers is the capability of the smartwatch. For now, we know that Galaxy Gear will be compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note 3. This will certainly limit the usage of the smartwatch and therefore the Korean manufacturer has made it clear that this will change in the forthcoming future.
During the special Unpacked event, Samsung has announced that it will provide regular updates for some of its most successful devices, like Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 with support for the Galaxy Gear. This will be only the beginning for the smartwatch. If everything goes by plan, eventually Galaxy Gear will be compatible with all Samsung devices and non-Samsung devices. The smartwatch works with Bluetooth 4.0 which is a power-efficient feature. The Galaxy Gear will work with devices that support Bluetooth LE and run on Android 4.3.
The logic says that the smartwatch will not be compatible with a lot of the currently used devices, like the Galaxy S4 Google Play and HTC One Google Edition, Nexus 4 etc. At the moment, Galaxy Gear seems to be exclusively made to pair up with Galaxy Note 3. The newly unveiled phablet is equipped with special apps purposed for the smartwatch that bring more improved functionality in the interaction between the large0sized smartphone and the smartwatch.
This will change soon, because according to the director of the product marketing in Samsung, Ryan Bidan, the company “looking for additional devices to support it.” The new smartwatch will be launched in the end of the month.
