Xperia Z sells as good as expected
The head of Xperia Marketing Calum MacDougall officially announced that Sony is satisfied with the sales of Xperia Z so far. Let’s remind you, that the flagship smartphone launched first in Japan and then in Germany. Now it is available in 60 countries.
According to MacDougall, the new smartphone enjoyed quite a good number of pre-orders. When it was released in the official Sony Store in Berlin on February 21, it sold for two hours and in France there were more purchases in the online store than what the company sold the last 12 weeks.
Speaking of Japan, Xperia Z was hit in the first week of its release and sold more than 150 000 units. This automatically gave it 24 per cent share of the market. Let’s not hurry to a conclusion, but the figures seem pretty promising.
MacDougall was asked whether the company works on a device operating with Windows Phone 8. The answer was that all the devices in Q1 and Q2 will be Android-based, but the company never disregards or underestimates different operating systems. This was proved today, at a joint conference of Sony and the Spanish carrier Telefonica, when the companies announced their extended partnership and that Sony is already working on a device with Firefox OS, which will be available through Telefonica no earlier than 2014.
