Wireless Charging System Announced by the Wireless Power Consortium
Wireless Charging System to Be Demonstrated by WPC This Week at CES
A wireless charging system of a new type was announced today by the Wireless Power Consortium. WPC features the Qi wireless charging standard. That is a standard for Nokia Lumia devices with Windows Phone, starting from the Lumia 920. WPS announced that it is to demonstrate the new wireless charging system this week at CES. It is a new resonant wireless charging system.
There was a press release by WPC today. The new system will increase the freedom of device placement. With the new wireless charging system users will get more multi device charging and more efficiency. The most exciting news is that the system will be completely backwards compatible. That is great for users of older Windows Phone devices. They will not need to buy the latest models to use the new wireless charging system.
With the resonant extension the charging efficiency will get higher. It will also ensure lower RF interference. Users will conveniently charge multiple devices. They will be able to charge their devices at longer distances. They will no longer need a USB charging cable with the new wireless charging system. There will be more flexibility for everyone. Users will have Qi integration not only in their home environment. They will get it in their cars and in all their general accessories.
As John Perzow, the WPC Vice President responsible for market development, added to the announcement: Qi is a leading standard of wireless charging. WPC is constantly working on the improvement of wireless charging experiences for users. Safety and compatibility are in the focus. The Qi standard is becoming more and more widely spread.
The system of Windows Phone devices is dominated by the Qi standard. So the news of the wireless charging system is great for owners of these devices.
