What will Windows 8.1 Blue bring for Windows Phone?
Windows 8.1 Blue is coming soon and while we have a good idea about the advantages it will add to phones and tablets that run Windows RT or Windows 8, very little is known about the improvements it will add to Windows Phone. The speculations on this topic are endless. According to the latest rumors, soon we will see Windows Phone Blue that will be equipped with Bluetooth 4.0, VPN and LE support among other features.
Should we believe that rumors are true? There are some hints that Windows Phone with blue will have some of the features that we will see in Windows RT with Blue. One of the sources of information we can use, is the list with available jobs in Microsoft. In February a job description appeared on the website of Microsoft revealing that the company is looking to hire someone that can bring “much of the WinRT API surface and the .NET Windows Store profile to the Phone.” It gives us a clue about the path that Microsoft is taking with Windows 8.1.
The leak of information about the upcoming Windows 8.1 Blue reveals that Justin Angel, who has been working for companies like Microsoft and Nokia in the past, has been exploring Windows Blue image for RT and he has succeeded in finding support for Low Lag Camera APIs, which enriches the recording of HDR and support for LE, Bluetooth 4.0 and VPN. The sources reveal also that there will be reverences added in the image to geofencing. We saw this option in the recently launched Google’s app Maps APIs. There is also abundance of options for the different apps for editing and creating music playlists, and wireless streaming.
