Think out of the box when you are trying to hack the Touch ID of iPhone 5S
One of the most interesting and exciting features of the new Apple iPhone 5S is the fingerprint sensor build in it. It is not everyday to see a smartphone working with the innovative biometric technology. The Touch ID is a great security feature and as expected, many users were trying to see if it works. Apparently it does, but as it turns out, it works with a nipple, a dog paw and a cat paw as well. Several enthusiastic users have posted videos on YouTube show how the innovative fingerprint recognition technology can be fooled and hacked in several different and unbelievable ways. Apple has announced that the sensitive information about the fingerprint is saved on the processor and it can only be accessed by certain apps. The information is not even encrypted on the cloud storage so the security for the device is supposed to be very reliable.
The videos show several ideas for unlocking of iPhone 5S with untypical approach. They have certainly had fun while experimenting with the new feature. Videos are almost hilarious; however they do raise some questions about the functionality of the Touch ID. The creators of the videos do not use anything high-end, like geeks and certain combination of actions, like the folks do in the video for fooling the security of the lockscreen. Nope, they use just regular things, like a dog paw, a cat paw or … a nipple to get through the Touch ID.
Experiments like this are absolutely normal and useful for the companies. Apple has recently announced that it is working on solving the problems. We can expect the bug fixes in the next updates of iOS 7. As we shared yesterday, the company is not wasting time and the iOS 7.0.1 has already been spotted working on a device. What do you think about the videos? More entertained or more concerned you feel after you saw the experiments?
