The upcoming Galaxy S24 is expected to support the UFS 4.1
Rumors regarding the specifications of Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S24, have already begun to appear one month after the release of the Galaxy S23. These reports are mainly focused on the Galaxy S24’s chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. A new leak has been released, claiming to provide information on the expected Geekbench scores and specifications of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Galaxy S24 is still approximately one year away from its launch.
The leaked information suggests that the primary core of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC does not reach a frequency as high as 3.7GHz. Instead, the Cortex-X4 core is clocked at 3.2GHz, which is comparable to the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. This is the version that is exclusively used in the Galaxy S23 flagships, possessing a clock rate of 3.36GHz for the primary Cortex-X3 CPU core.
It appears that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 might be more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, however, that is likely not true.
If the details of this leak seem a bit unclear, that’s because they are. In short, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 could potentially have a higher frequency core than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In any case, the upcoming SoC should boast better performance than the previous model, and Geekbench data appears to back this up.
The leak suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will feature an unconventional 1+5+2 CPU core configuration, in which one primary core is accompanied by five Cortex-A720 performance cores and two Cortex-A520 energy-efficient cores. This differs from the primary CPU core’s originally stated specifications.
The Cortex-A720 cores are projected to have a clock speed of 3.0GHz, which is 0.2GHz faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Cortex-A520 cores, on the other hand, will maintain the same 2.0GHz frequency as the existing chipset. The CPU is likely to be paired with an Adreno 750 GPU and an X75 5G modem.
It appears that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series could possibly utilize UFS 4.1 storage, as indicated by the leak, or that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 would be compatible with this unreleased storage standard.
Lastly, reports indicate the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may even outperform the iPhone 14 in Geekbench, having achieved 1930 points in single-core tests and 6236 points in multi-core tests. While these figures appear to be precise, it is best to approach them with some skepticism.
Many Samsung fans are wondering if the Galaxy S24 will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 exclusively or if the Exynos line of chipsets will make a comeback in certain markets in 2021.
