T-Mobile announce the acquisition of 10MHz of Advanced Wireless Services of US Cellular
One of the biggest mobile operators in the US, T-Mobile has just announced that it has closed the deal with the US Cellular for the acquisition of 10MHz of Advanced Wireless Services (AWS). The price that T-Mobile paid was $308 million in cash. This new acquisition will enable T-Mobile to expand its 4G LTE network to new markets in the country and to increase its bandwidth.
The spectrum that T-Mobile has just included to its network covers nearly 32 million of people, located in 29 markets, including Kansas City, Lexington, Birmingham, St. Louis, New Orleans, Memphis, Little Rock-North Little Rock, Louisville, Nashville.
According to the announcement made by the CEO of the company, John Legere, they find the spectrum for a real gold in the current environment on the markets. T-Mobile has grabbed this rare opportunity that enables the company to secure WS spectrum on significant markets that will provide more quality services immediately for the clients of T-Mobile and MetroPCS.
The latest trend on the wireless markets for the mobile carriers is to provide more quality 4G LTE services for their customers. A lot of carriers worldwide are following strategies for expanding of their networks and coverage to new markets and providing higher speed 4G LTE services in the covered territories. T-Mobile joins the race for providing the 4G LTE services a bit later after its rivals; therefore the company would use every opportunity it gets to expand the network to new markets. For a comparison, the rivals of the carrier, AT&T and Verizon Wireless already cover 290 markets and 500 markets, respectively.
The deal between US Cellular and T-Mobile is still pending approval by the Departments of Justice and the FCC. If everything goes as planned, the actual transaction will be made in Q4 this year.
