Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets to reach more countries
Microsoft has just announced that they will increase the number of countries where consumers can buy the RT and the Pro Surface tablets. At the moment the Surface Pro is available only in China, US and Canada. After the market expansion in 2 waves – in May and June, it can be bought by users in 24 more countries. Among the countries Surface Pro is going to hit in May are UK, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Nederland and others. The second expansion will reach the consumers in 5 more countries in June – Russia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Korea. After the expansion, Surface Pro will be available in 27 countries in total. The Surface RT will be introduced in Malaysia on April 25th and soon after in Mexico. The launch in Korea and Thailand is scheduled for June. After June the Surface RT can be seen in 29 countries in total.
It will be interesting to see if Microsoft is going to cope with the deliveries and stock problems, especially after such an expansion. Microsoft is still having troubles with stock availabilities in Canada and the US. It was said that the company is desperately trying to improve its supply chain and eliminate the issues, but the 128 GB version of the Surface Pro is still challenging to keep in stock in the retail partners. Speaking about the other model – Surface RT, it has registered relatively low sales so far. That means that the increased number of potential customers can help Microsoft improve the sales rate to the level of the initial expectations.
The last month report indicated that Microsoft has sold only 1.5 million Surface tablets, falling below the lowest estimates. On the other hand, Apple has sold 22.9 million iPads in the holiday quarter. The Surface Pro has two versions –64GB and 128GB and the price starts from $899, while the Surface RT costs only $499.
