Samsung stepping into the 440ppi realm with Samsung Galaxy S4
When Apple first introduced its high resolution “Retina” display for the iPhone series, no other smartphone could boast a display nearly as sharp. That’s ‘history’ now.
DigiTimes is reporting that Samsung Display is working on a new sub-pixel arrangement for its smaller AMOLED panels. The new display will be most probably seen on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4. This suggests nothing less than a 1080p display, of course, and in order to maintain a pixel density of 440ppi or higher, Samsung is expected to be using a hexagonal and diamond-shaped layouts as opposed to the more traditional side-by-side layout.
Now, Samsung is sure to be at the Mobile World Congress, but recent rumors suggest we won’t be seeing the Galaxy S4 presented there. Rather, Samsung will be showing other new devices, such as the Galaxy Note 8.0, as well as a couple of other neat surprises.
