Samsung Galaxy Gear update arrives and lets you read mails and tweets
The update allows user to change their notifications in settings on the smartwatch
Here’s a Christmas present for owners of the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch right in time. Well, not exactly, as we couldn’t expect this to arrive so soon, however let’s call it a Christmas miracle. Samsung has just started rolling out an update for everyone that will soon hit every gear in order to enable users to read Gmail, Facebook and Twitter right from their wrists. However, this will happen in a limited way.
The update allows users to change their notifications in settings on the smartwatch and with that they can be notified when they get a message from the social networks they use and those will be viewable directly on the screen up to certain length.
Still, if the message is too long, users will have to view it on their smartphone and that’s the limitation we’ve mentioned earlier. Furthermore, the update for the smart gear will also arrive with Smart Reply improvements that would make the jumps between the smartwatch and your phone much easier. Aside from that, there are major improvements with the lift and pause gesture movements that activate the clock.
The Gmail notifications are also pretty awesome, however there’s a catch- in case you’re getting three at once, they will all be merged into one notification. Still, it’s a great start and definitely into the right direction.
Let’s hope that WhatsApp will be next on the list of future apps to be supported by the smartwatch.
We can’t deny this update is quite an improvement, as so far the Galaxy Gear hasn’t been living up to all the expectations, mostly because of the limited number of supported devices in the beginning.
Fortunately, that’s not an issue anymore, so Samsung has only to deal with the limited functionality of the device. Luckily for Galaxy Gear owners, this one has also been expanded.
Enjoy.
