Phone memory storage comparison – how much are you actually getting?
Apple has taken the first place, while Samsung is last and offers the least memory storage
We all know that when you buy a new phone, the storage listed isn’t actually what you get, because of the operating system and a bunch of other programs. So which developer manages to deliver you the most storage?
A study has been conducted by a UK tech site called Which, which compared the major brands and developers, who offer phones with supposedly 16GB space and came to the conclusion that Apple’s iPhone 5C is the one giving the users most storage space with 12.60GB.
Second place is Google Nexus 5 with 12.28GB, after that we have Apple again with its iPhone 5S with 12.20GB, followed by Sony Xperia Z1 with 11.43GB, Blackberry Z30 with 11.20GB, HTC One Mini with 10.44GB, LG G2 with 10.37GB and Samsung Galaxy S4 having the lowest of all – 8.56GB.
This all begs the question – where has all that memory gone? Well it’s basic knowledge that every phone has to use some of its internal memory for the operating system and many manufacturers also stuff them with various apps, skins and bloatware, which Samsung Gaxaly S4 seems to be king of.
However, the fact that Apple’s iPhone 5c and Google’s new Nexus 5 while providing a lot more storage space than any other phone out there, it also should be noted that they also don’t have the option of additional memory card space. You can boost up your Samsung by adding in extra 64GB of storage for a reasonable price.
That said, expandable storage will never be quite as fast as internal storage, so it’s basically a trade-off. On one hand, while you can indeed add more to your memory, why should you? You paid for a 16GB RAM and you’re barely getting half, so it’s not exactly fair and maybe the manufacturers should rethink their marketing when it comes to this issue. On the other, it’s pretty easy to check if your phone has a memory slot and do the math, which would be the best for you.
