Pebble Steel is officially introduced with stainless steel body and e-paper display
Pebble announced the premium Pebble Steel smartwatch
Few days ago Pebble posted a teaser announcing that we should expect “something special” to be revealed on 6th of January, only a day before the beginning of CES 2014 on 7th of January. Early on Monday a leak with photo of a brand new smartwatch by Pebble appeared on the web. Few hours later the advanced timepiece was officially introduced by the company at the press event. The new model smatrwatch is dubbed Pebble Steel and as the name hints, it comes with a body made of CNC-machined stainless steel.
The display of the device is protected by Gorilla Glass with an anti-fingerprint coating on top. There is an RGB LED located in the bottom left corner of the screen. Speaking of display, the Pebble Steel sports the same e-paper technology as the original device. The energy saving screen is one of the reasons why the Pebble Steel fascinates with 5 to 7 days of battery life, just like its older sibling. As the leak revealed earlier, the new model smartwatch will be available in Black Matte and Brushed Stainless variants. It will be combined with metal band or stylish black strap. The company revealed the price of the new smartwatch. It is already available for orders in the online store getpebble.com for the price of $249. The first shipping date for the device is 28th of January. The costs for the new Pebble Steel are nearly $100 more than you would pay for the last year’s Pebble smartwatch. However the appearance of the new device is truly fascinating and a lot more attractive and premium than the original timepiece.
Along with the announcement of the new special addition to the family of smartwatches, the company shared its plans to launch the dedicated Pebble app store by the end of January. Would you buy Pebble Steel for yourself? Share with us your opinion.
