Nokia Lumia 520 – The Best-Selling Windows Device
Surprise! It seems that Nokia just bust the general expectations of the technological world with the fact that Nokia Lumia 520 is the best-selling Windows Device in the world. The affordable low-end smartphone, which can be obtained for just under $100, has managed to outsell all other Windows devices – computers and tablets. It has even beaten the fabulous Microsoft Surface and Microsoft Surface Pro with their popular Windows 8. How do we know? A few days ago this and other surprising stats were announced at the internal Microsoft meeting with employees, where a general topic was the trades of Windows devices.
This is partly surprising because Microsoft didn’t put much stake on the decent Nokia Lumia 520, and partly because the general opinion is that people nowadays are looking for powerful, almost ‘alien’ mobile phones, while this particular handset is not that remarkable with its Dual Core 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, 512MB operative memory and 4’’ capacitive display. However, it has more or less everything expected from a modern smartphone and this added to the extremely affordable price (not many phones with these qualities can be found out there) and the nice system (some people just prefer Windows and they have some point), makes the phone one very good choice.
However, we assume that from Microsoft are facing this news with mixed feelings. Of course, they are surely happy that their system is made so widespread and popular thanks to Nokia, but they must also now regret all the money they spent for advertising Microsoft Surface Pro and Windows 8. You may know that just a year ago, in October 2012, Microsoft planned to spend about $1.5 billion on advertising Microsoft Surface, Microsoft Surface Pro and Windows 8. And Nokia Lumia 520 beat that without having a special advertising budget like these products. Congratulations, Nokia!
