No functionality improvement in Windows Phone 7.8
If you have hoped that the new update of Windows Phone 7.8 will bring some improvements on functionality, you will be disappointed. Microsoft may have tried to improve something, but eventually the company couldn’t boost with anything better in Windows Phone 7.8 than in Windows Phone 7.5, so it’s best to assume that the two versions of the system are much alike.
Earlier an in-depth comparison of the performance of Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 7.8 has been released on the Internet. The idea of the comparison was to find out whether there were any improvements of the performance in the new version. For a pity, the new software version of the system can’t get much more from the first-generation hardware so the results are pretty much similar. No-one has expected something more, though, right?
You know that the Windows Phone 7.x employ a basic single-core processor and at most 512 MB RAM. Windows Phone 7, however, works perfect on the devices and everything is quite smooth, so there’s no reason for Microsoft to change anything. Of course, Windows Phone 8 device load apps faster, but they come with much more powerful hardware and much more advanced system.
We have no official statement that there will be performance improvement in Windows Phone 7.8. Some of the new features, however, will include the Live Tiles, improved lock screen etc. Don’t forget that multi-tasking greatly affects the performance. The more the apps launched, the lower the performance. Above you can see a screenshot of the results of Nokia Lumia 800 with Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 7.8 at MultiBench 2.
The conclusion is that if you want better performance, you should both get a new phone with better specs and upgrade to Windows Phone 7.8. Don’t hesitate to comment and express your opinion and experience.
