A metal frame of the Samsung Galaxy S5 captured in pictures
The future Galaxy S5 flagship is getting a metal frame
A new report from Nowhereelse reveals the metal frame of the future Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone. Even though the possible metal frame is not a big deal and we don’t know anything else about the future product, it seems this marks a turning point of Samsung’s design efforts. The metal frame would be a departure, a big change for the Korean company. Samsung has been largely used plastic for all of its models. However, despite the premium look, many consumers state the option Samsung’s devices look cheap and not easy to hold. A possible device with metal, would add this missing product to Samsung’s line up and it would satisfy those consumers willing a more premium feel.
There is a logical reason for the company to use so largely plastic in its devices. Plastic as a material has some positives, like keeping the weight and the price of the products down. On the other hand, it limits the structure and the design decisions. Of course, the metal frame shown on these pictures doesn’t mean the Galaxy S5 will have a different design.
The metal frame could be for another Samsung model, not the S5, and the possible model could embrace again plastic for the casing. As the picture hints, this metal part is likely to serve as a frame, while the other parts will be made of plastic. If the whole model is made of metal, the possible design could be similar to the HTC One, with a unibody. Of course, Samsung could surprise us, delivering something unexpected like removable backing or anything else. It is yet to be seen whether this will be true or not.
