LG Optimus G Pro vs. Sony Xperia Z
Introduction
Now we really have a hard decision to make. Which high-end smartphone is better – the flagship LG Optimus G Pro or the flagship Sony Xperia Z? Let’s compare them and try to make the decision easier. We will use the Korean version of LG Optimus G Pro, which has a 5.5-inch Full HD display. In contrast to it, the Japanese version comes with 5-inch display. We don’t yet know which of the versions will hit the US and European markets in the second quarter of this year. With this note made and as long as the only difference between the two LG versions is the screen, let’s get to work.
Design
If you are looking for a phone that will be easy to handle and use with one hand, Sony Xperia Z definitely wins here. Although LG Optimus G Pro is quite compact and light for a smartphone with a screen of this size because of its ultra-thin bezel, it can’t be safely used with one hand. Sony’s device uses on-screen navigation keys, which makes it much more compact than the heavier and thicker G Pro. Moreover, you can get a better feeling by holding the glass unibody of Sony Xperia Z and pressing the metal power button. The grip is facilitated by the rubbery sides that also help for the sealing off the water-proof chassis. LG Optimus G Pro’s back cover is removable, which means you can replace the battery if you want or need to.
Displays
LG Optimus G Pro comes with 5.5-inch screen and its resolution is as great as Sony Xperia Z’s – Full HD. The pixel density of the latter, however, is 441 which is better than the 401 ppi of LG’s flagship. Except this, Optimus G Pro’s screen is better – its colours are brighter and more vivid and the visibility outside is significantly clearer.
Hardware
LG Optimus G Pro is more powerful than Sony Xperia Z as it comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 at 1.7GHz, while the latter sport Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro at 1.5 GHz. The devices are really powerful and you won’t have problems with some ordinary task, but when it comes for some heavy application, LG Optimus G Pro surely kicks asses. Both LG Optimus G Pro and Sony Xperia Z have 2GB of RAM, but they differ when it comes for storage capacity – Xperia Z has 16GB, while G Pro sports 32GB. They both, however, support microSD. They have 4G LTE and HSPA+ and when it comes to battery, LG Optimus G Pro has 3140mAh to supply its large display, while Xperia Z comes with 2330mAh.
Software
The devices come with Android Jelly Bean, but, as always, optimized. Sony keeps its Timescape, but with the name Socialife, while LG continues with its Optimus UI. There’s nothing significant about the systems as they provide you with all you need and are optimized to satisfy the customers’ needs.
Conclusion
The choice is not easy – the grand display and the newer technologies of LG Optimus Pro against the classy Xperia Z. However, when you choose, don’t forget that Xperia Z is dust and waterproof, as well as more compact, while G Pro will provide you with better multimedia and browsing experience.
