iPhone 5 materials cost $168

Apple is notorious for keeping development and production costs low, while doing the “impossible” to ensure just enough innovations in their new iPhones to make it all worth.

Now Apple’s 5 has been measured, weighed and its cost revealed. Techinsights have come up with a preliminary bill of materials and concluded that the iPhone5 cost $168 to build.

Too ‘preliminary’ an estimate?¨Perhaps! We shall know it for sure soon. Still it won’t go too much above $200, even when assembly, R&D and sales/marketing costs are taken into account.

The fact is that iPhone 5 was more expensive to make than 4S.
