iOS 7 beta 2 enables taking of unwanted screenshots
The iOS 7 beta 2 has just been released and already many changes have been noticed in the platform compared to beta 1. One interesting change that will influence the work of different apps is that the active touches are now active in beta 2 allowing users to take screenshots without notifications. The main purpose of the canceled active touches in the iOS was to announce users when unwanted screenshots have been taken on Snapchat or Facebook.
The way that apps were working until now required by the user when he/she opens a photo in Snapchat for example to keep his/her finger on the screen. This action keeps the picture opened on the screen. If he tries to take a screenshot, the action interrupts the viewing of the photo and closes the picture. This method was used to help to Snapchat to detect unwanted or illegal taking of screenshots. The sender of the photo was immediately notified that the screenshot has been saved.
The changes in iOS 7 beta 2, the action for taking screenshots does not interrupt the viewing of the photo and does not close the picture. Senders of the photo are no longer notified that the pictures are saved which makes it harder for Snapchat and Facebook to detect unwanted or illegal actions by users. The notifications work only if users of iOS 6 take a screenshot but in case that iOS 7 users take this action, there will no be any notification.
Apps like Snapchat take the problem with the safety and the privacy of their users very seriously. The new changes in the iOS 7 put the challenge in front of apps working on these principles either to find a new solution for detecting screenshots or to disable the feature completely in the official iOS 7. Do you think that Apple will take seriously the concerns for the apps about the allowed active touches? Tell us what you think.
