Which HTC smartphones will receive the Android 4.4 KitKat first?
Android 4.4 KitKat is officially here with abundance of new features on board and improved capabilities to unleash the potential of the smartphones and the tablets running on the platform, including high-end and low-end devices. The first handset that officially runs on the new platform is the just-released Google Nexus 5. HTC is among the two manufacturers that has already announced some of its plans for the rolling-out of the update to its devices. The other company is Motorola.
The first smartphone by HTC that will receive the Android 4.4 KitKat is the flagship HTC One the Google Play edition. The president of the company Jason Mackenzie revealed for Engadget that the updating of the model will happen within the next 2 weeks. The next device in line for the 4.4 KitKat is the HTC Developer edition. It will be enriched with the update within a month from now. In three months from now all the HTC One devices in the States will get the Android 4.4 KitKat. What will happen with the smaller and the bigger siblings of the flagship? Have no doubt, HTC One Max and HTC One Mini will also be updated with the new version of the platform. The planning of the rolling-out process is just not complete yet.
The HTC One Google Play edition will be updated with the vanilla Android 4.4. The other models of the One will get the new Android platform enriched with the user interface HTC Sense 5.5. We expect some new features and capabilities coming up with Sense 5.5 but Mackenzie did not reveal more details on this topic. Hopefully everything will go as planned and we will know in few weeks. HTC is being very consisted in providing updates of the software of its flagship. Even though those 90 days seem to you as a long time from now, it is great to know that the company is keeping up with the upgrading of the high-end model.
