Carriers vs. the FCC over the free Wi-Fi
The grand plan of the Federal Communications Commission to provide large zones of the USA with absolutely free Wi-Fi connection is currently awaiting fierce opposition by the carriers and the companies, manufacturing connection equipment. Naturally, everybody who has the past actions of the carriers to oppose the plans for free municipal connection, will not be surprised at the fact that the contradiction has already begun.
If you ask yourself what is wrong with the free internet connection, let us clear it up. The plan of FCC is to set up such a strong wireless connection that it will be enough for people to use it to go online and even to conduct totally free phone conversations through the internet. Something more – the speed of the free Wi-Fi is expected to be high enough even for using at home. All this will cut off the use of internet plans for homes and mobile phones, consequently causing unimaginable losses for the internet provides and companies like CISCO.
On the other hand, large hi-tech corporations like Google and Microsoft happily support the idea which will provide more and more users with free internet access and will inevitably increase their traffic. However, a few or more years will pass before the dream connection comes true. We are sure to see a bitter fight between the two sides and are eagerly waiting for the arguments “for” and “against” the idea!
