BlackBerry reducing its workers by 40%
Well, as we see BBM app soon appearing officially soon we will see 40% of BlackBerry workers go away for good from the company. The report suggests that the redundancies that are going to take place will not be done at once but will rather be conducted across the board at different times of the coming year.
A report published on Wednesday claimed thousands of jobs could (will) be eliminated. As of March when was the last time the figure of BlackBerry employees was disclosed the company had 12 700 employees. Only two years ago the number of employees was 17 000 and the company owned 14% of the US smartphone market. This figure is now down to 3% according to IDC.
BlackBerry lost $646 million as revenue crumbled 40% to $11 billion previous year.
In the most recent quarter, the company lost 4 million subscribers and reported a loss of $84 million. Another loss is expected when the company reports its latest quarterly earnings in the coming week. This is all happening despite the company’s launch earlier this year of the new BlackBerry 10 line. Indications are that the phones are not selling well, and on Wednesday morning BlackBerry introduced its first 5 inch model, the BlackBerry .
“Organizational moves will continue to occur to ensure we have the right people in the right roles to drive new opportunities in mobile computing.”-BlackBerry
Although the new phone has improved characteristics like battery life and bigger screen the model simply is not enough to stop the “bleeding” of the manufacturer on its way down. BlackBerry’s board is hard at work looking for a buyer for the company, hopefully before November. We are about to see what the future will be of the Canadian OEM and how will they deal with their impending problems.
