Amazon Kindle Fire is the first model from the new Kindle Fire tablet lineup. Released in 2011, September, this tablet packs a 7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It measures 190 x 120 x 11.4 mm and weighs 413 grams. The first gen Kindle Fire has an average display which looks a bit grainy especially compared with the Kindle Fire HD screen. Another weak area of this model is the internal storage. Having just 8 GB is definitely less than many people would love to have. That means you will have just 5.5 GB after the OS and the other system files. The things are getting worse considering the fact there is no micro SD slot for expansion. The other innards include a dual-core processor ticking over at 1 GHz with 512 MB of RAM. If you love making video Skype calls, you should buy the Kindle Fire - It doesn’t have a camera at all. The operating system is a customized version of the old-dated Android 2.3. In terms of connectivity the first Kindle Fire includes a micro USB and Wi-Fi, unlike the HD model which adds micro HDMI. Unfortunately, both models lack GPS and NFC chips. |
