All you need to know about unlocking HTC One in the US
If you got a subsidized version of HTC One through some of the carriers in the US, you probably know that it is locked. That means you cannot use it with a different provider, unless you pay a fee or use some free unlocking solution. We will explore the different ways of unlocking HTC One. Of course you can use some of the paid services for unlocking, but our advice is to do it through contacting your carrier. They may be not so happy about that, but this is the best option since the unlocked devices from an untrusted service are not legal anymore. Another option is to pay a fee of $12.95 and get your unlock code directly from HTC.
HTC One is currently available at three carriers – T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint. All carriers offer the device with different conditions. For example, AT&T sells the exclusive 64 GB version and you can get up to $100 discount in certain conditions. You can get HTC via T-Mobile for $99 signing a new 2 –year contract paying $22 monthly, while Sprint offers you unlimited data plans.
Each carrier has its own policy for unlocking the handset. You must fulfill the following requirements: AT&T will unlock your HTC One if your account is in good standing the last 60 days and the device is fully paid off. T-Mobile requires all commitments to be fulfilled, while Sprint – to have your account active and in good standing for 90 days. Therefore, you need to invest some money to pay the handset full to be able to unlock it.
If you fulfill the requirements you need to contact your carrier and ask for a SIM unlock. You must provide the operator with IMEI number available in the About section. Once requested, the unlock can be completed in 1-3 days – you can expect the unlocked code on your email. Then, turn off your phone, replace your SIM card with another one from a different provider, and turn your phone on again. You will need to enter the code received by email and it is done – you can use HTC One on any network.
