Adapting Dark Souls to Android might be difficult says Namco Bandai
A lot of famous and critically acclaimed games have been adapted for Android so far, however according to the big game developer and publisher, Namco Bandai, adapting the game from console to mobile devices will be no easy task. At the moment they are trying to negotiate porting Dark Souls to Android. They do want that to happen, but from a profit oriented point of view, it doesn’t really translate to a developer’s perspective.
This is the proverbial wall that the company has seems to hit with game developer From Software, who are a bit hesitant to make such a big commitment. Their main concern is in regards to the changes that would have to be made in order for the game to work properly and for the player to have the full Dark Souls experience. Porting the game from console version to touch screen controls is a worry for the developers, because they don’t want to ruin the fun of the user if the controls don’t function properly.
The Namco Bandai director of global strategy Alex Adjaj says that while they’d love to bring Dark Souls to mobile, it will be very difficult, because the people at From Software are mostly console oriented. He says that it would take quite a while in order to change their minds and take this big risk. Adjaj adds that he thinks there is a need to redesign the way people re-roll the game and make it a bit more casual, so with shorter sessions, but it’s definitely something they are willing to bring to mobile in a very successful way.
While the future of the mobile version of Dark Souls is still being decided, the fact that both companies are in talks about his step forward could be seen as a good sign, but as always, only time will tell.
