Google+ Sign-in to compete with Facebook connect
Everybody has already had this situation – you go to a website and want to use its functions, but you need to be registered for a full access. Frustrating, right? Well, Facebook put an end to this long ago with Facebook Connect. You just click on the ‘Sign in with Facebook’ button and you are in. Another question is what part of your personal data is used by the website and by Facebook during this process.
Now it seems that Google wants to offer similar, but more advanced service. Google+ Sign-in promised to its users to kill the social spam and to enhance security and privacy. The most important feature of the service is that when you install an app on your device, there will be a permission screen that not only informs you on what data will be used by the app, but also tells you who will be able to see your activity. The service will be available for both iOS and Android, but the users of the latter get something more. Every time you log in a website using the service, you will be able to directly install the official application of the website (provided there is such an app).
To conclude, Google will improve the ‘frictionless’ data (or spam) used by Facebook. With the new service you will see only activity shared or liked by your friends, so it won’t be such a mess. We are eagerly waiting to see how all this works.
