Why use the Bible, when you can use the Bible app
It seems that everything in our lives becomes centred in our smartphones. News, books, calendars, notes, diaries, mail, cooking books – there is an app for everything. Now, it seems that not only there is a Bible app for every possible mobile operation system, but it is used in ceremonies when the real Holy Book is not available.
Such was the case a few days ago, when the Fire Department in Atlantic City faced a serious problem. They were having an important event – the promotion of several firemen to Fire Captains and Battalion Chiefs. Usually, such a ceremony passes with the help of a Bible – the hard-working and responsible men swear to do their duty properly.
However, they forgot to bring a Bible. And just as the ceremony seemed to turn into an epic fail, someone in the hall got out an iPad and offered to download and install a Bible app on it. Everybody took on the idea and soon the firemen were swearing with their hands on the screen of the iPad, trying not to notice it’s not a real Bible.
Well, it’s an innovative method to use a tablet with priced a thousand and some dollars, and it probably won’t work for the swear-in of the new President, but it appears good enough for the rules in the Atlantic city. However, is it a good idea to allow this – to integrate the religion in our tablets?
