Huawei quad core Ascend G520 – not for Americans and Europeans
Huawei has just launched a new budget smartphone phone called the G520; perhaps Ascend G520. Anyway, what’s important is the price for this new handset: 1,399 Chinese yuan, which is almost $225. And for this modest price you get a quad core MediaTek processor, 4.5 inch screen of yet unknown resolution, and a 5 megapixel camera.
The producer has announced that it’s going to release the device on January the 21st, on China Mobile. The question is – will G520 ever land in the United States or Europe? Sorry, no!
Pretty much anything with a MediaTek chipset inside never leaves China, Russia, India, and a handful of other places, most probably due to some intellectual property rights.
Why are we then speaking about the G520 ? Well, isn’t it best to be well informed?! In fact, in our opinion, most of the interesting things that will happen in the smartphone industry, will be in the midrange product tiers. And budget devices like the G520, costing about some $160 will definitely contribute for the position of China as world’s largest economy.
Besides…. Consider this – It’s easy to make a decent 600 EUR device. It’s a lot harder to make a decent 120 EUR smartphone!
