Motorola’s new Razr foldable flip phone is due to launch in 2023, giving them a jump on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5
Motorola has confirmed that its upcoming Razr foldable phone will be released “very soon,” though no exact date was given. The phrasing implies that the Razr may be out before Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5.
At MWC 2023, Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang reported that the reception for Motorola’s Razr series has been positive. Lenovo acquired Motorola, and their new foldable Razr line was released under Yang’s leadership. (Source: CNBC).
The CEO expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming model, saying it was “much better”. He also mentioned that Motorola should release it in the near future, without providing any other specifics. He did, however, suggest that the price may be reduced once the technology matures, with the possibility of increasing sales volume.
Before Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5, the new Razr may debut with a larger cover screen. It is said that both Motorola and Samsung are looking to have this feature on their upcoming flip foldable phones, and the Razr may beat the Flip 5 to the market.
Rumor has it that Motorola is developing two Razr phones for 2023 in an attempt to outdo Samsung. Whether or not this will actually be the case is yet to be seen. On the other hand, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 5 sometime between August and September of 2023.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 should boast a larger cover screen that would enhance usability when the device is folded shut. The hinge technology should remain similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s, even though Samsung could make major improvements to the hinge on the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Samsung is battling more competition in the foldable phone realm, including Tecno and Honor, the latter of which recently entered the global market with a cheaper Z Fold alternative compared to the Z Fold 4.
